Sermons and Other Writings

Martyn Lloyd-Jones had reservations about distributing sermon manuscripts and even audio sermon tapes.  He believed that in preaching, live preaching, there is something that can’t be reproduced in a manuscript or an audio copy, because preaching involves the presence of God in a special way.  But that doesn’t mean sermon copies are useless.  We have inspired sermons recorded for us in the Bible. Charles Spurgeon’s sermons were distributed weekly, in manuscript, to thousands.  We are blessed and thankful to have in writing many of Lloyd-Jones' sermons, too.  By God’s grace we still have available for our benefit and blessing wonderful sermons from the likes of John Chrysostom, Augustine, Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Wesley, Samuel Rutherford and Samuel Davies, and by Lloyd-Jones.  This preacher doesn’t presume to be in the same league with these great men of God, but hopes nevertheless that these manuscripts may be of some encouragement to whoever reads them.

Sermons, even if they are written in full manuscript, are usually written for preaching rather than for reading.  At least in our case there is a need for some editing.  It will be our aim to post some sample sermons here, and as time for editing permits, continue to add to the present number.
